How much does a
same-day courier cost?
The honest answer is: it depends — but on a small number of things you can actually control. Here's what sets the price.
What the price is based on
A same-day courier is priced per job, not per parcel. Four things set the figure: the distance from collection to delivery, the vehicle the load needs, how urgently it has to move, and any waiting or access time at either end.
Because the vehicle is dedicated to your consignment alone — it carries nothing else and drives straight there — you're paying for a direct run, not a slot in a shared network. That's why it's faster and more reliable, and why the price reflects the mileage and the vehicle rather than a fixed parcel rate.
Distance and vehicle
Distance is the biggest single factor: a cross-town run and a 200-mile dedicated drive are very different jobs. The vehicle matters too — a motorcycle or small van for documents and light parcels is the keenest-priced option, while a Luton with a tail-lift or a 7.5-tonne for pallets costs more because it's a bigger asset and often a two-person job.
If you're not sure which vehicle you need, describe the load — weight, dimensions and number of items — and a good operator will match the smallest suitable vehicle, which keeps the price down.
Timing, waiting and extras
An immediate collection at 2am will price differently from a planned run booked the day before. Waiting time, congestion-charge or toll costs, and difficult access (city centres, sites, restricted delivery windows) can all feed in — but a reputable courier tells you up front rather than adding it later.
As a rough anchor, short local same-day work often starts from around £15, with longer dedicated runs priced on the route. The only number that matters, though, is the fixed quote for your specific job.
How to get an accurate quote
Give the collection and delivery postcodes, what's moving (and its rough weight and size), and when it needs to be there. With those four details an operator can give you a fixed price before any driver sets off — no account needed for one-off work.
