What goes into a
pallet delivery price?
Pallets are priced on the space and weight they take up and on how easy they are to load, so a clear description gets you a fair figure fast.
Size, weight and number
A standard UK pallet measures 1200 by 1000 millimetres, but height and weight vary enormously. A knee-high, lightly loaded pallet behaves very differently from a fully stacked, heavy one, and the price follows that footprint and mass.
Quantity matters too. One pallet on a dedicated van is straightforward; several pallets may call for a larger vehicle or a different plan. Telling an operator exactly how many you have, and roughly how heavy, removes the guesswork.
Dedicated versus a pallet network
A pallet network co-loads your goods with hundreds of others and routes them through hubs, which can suit relaxed, low-value freight. A dedicated vehicle carries your pallet alone, direct from door to door, with no hub handling and no overnight depot stop.
Dedicated costs more because the vehicle is yours for the journey, but the pallet stays put, is handled less and arrives on a timeline you control. For anything fragile, time-sensitive or valuable, that direct route usually earns its keep.
Access and handling extras
The other variable is how the pallet gets on and off. If there is no forklift at either end, a tail-lift vehicle is needed, and that may carry a surcharge. A genuinely heavy or awkward item that needs two people to handle safely can add a two-man charge.
None of this should be a mystery on the invoice. Flag any tight access, a lack of forklift or a stair-lined route when you book, and the quote can account for it from the start.
Describing your pallet well
For an accurate price, note the rough dimensions, the weight, the number of pallets, what is on them and the access at both ends. With that in hand an operator can give a fixed quote before the driver sets off rather than a vague estimate that drifts on the day.
