Clear labelling is one of the easiest ways to keep a delivery on track, and it takes only a minute to get the few details that matter right.
Address and contact, clearly
The label's first job is to say exactly where the load is going. A full delivery address with the postcode, written plainly and fixed where it can be seen, removes any guesswork at the far end and keeps the driver moving straight to the door.
Add a contact name and number for the delivery point too. If access is awkward or someone needs to sign, a quick call solves it on the spot, and it turns a label into a way of actually reaching the person waiting for the goods.
References and handling notes
If there is an order number, job reference or purchase order, put it on the label. A clear reference helps the goods be matched to the right paperwork the moment they arrive, which matters most when a busy goods-in counter is receiving several deliveries at once.
Handling notes earn their place as well. Marking an item fragile, flagging this way up, or noting that a pallet must not be stacked tells everyone how to treat it. Good notes protect the contents and spare you the cost of avoidable damage.
Labelling a pallet
A pallet needs a little more thought than a single box. Secure the load so nothing shifts, then fix the label to a flat outer face where it stays visible once the pallet is wrapped, rather than tucked under shrink film where no one can read it.
If the pallet is one of several going to different places, label each clearly so they are never confused on a shared loading bay. A moment spent here keeps the right pallet on the right vehicle and the delivery on schedule.
